October 13 hotfix: what changes for this guide
The October 13 official hotfix fixes canceling Proxima’s Shell ability preventing weapons from being re-equipped. It also fixes Biosampler hitting or targeting Cursed Child and Grisha summons, improves its Monolith interaction, and fixes Bor’s lock-on location and Biosampler interaction. These are distinct from September 14’s stuck-animation fix. After updating your platform, check one canceled action and the return to your weapon in a safe encounter. If the issue persists, report the action, target, platform and installed version rather than treating it as an intended recovery window.
Requirement: An early map marker; the body is inside the dungeon.
Turn the map hint into an actual pickup
Start from Blackridge Pass and identify Shattered Beacon rather than looking for a body beside the outdoor Beacon. PowerPyx describes an interior pickup, and Gamer Guides also places Proxima on the floor inside Shattered Beacon. This distinction matters because reaching the approximate search area is not the same thing as finishing the collection objective.
After entering, make the Shell interaction your immediate objective and check the selection screen once the sequence is complete. If you are exploring for other rewards at the same time, keep those tasks separate in your checklist. Otherwise it is easy to remember having visited the dungeon while forgetting whether you actually claimed the Shell. An early marker helps navigation; it does not record that final step for you.
Unlock cost: distinguish a hint from a bond
Finding a body, revealing its location and upgrading its bond are different actions. A Shellkeeper map reveal is a navigation service; it should not be described as the purchase price of the playable Shell. The linked routes let you pursue the pickup without assuming that buying a hint completes any local fight, offering or quest interaction.
We have not verified a current per-Shell Gloom price table. Read the live reveal prompt on your installed version before spending, and compare that optional cost with your next Harbinger or equipment upgrade. We do not fill the missing table with guessed values. Tiel and Proxima already have early markers; Genessa follows a separate Censer chain.
The Week 1 official update changes the long-term resource picture and introduces Mether’s Severance for Shell resets. Old advice that assumes a permanently fixed lifetime Glimpse budget needs that patch context. Use the respec guide for the return process, and read the confirmation prompt before applying it to a bond you want to keep.
Use the hook as a positioning decision
The archived kit describes Biosampler as a hook that brings an enemy or Proxima into range. The useful build question is where the action leaves you. Before using it, identify the space behind the target and the enemies beside it. Closing distance can create a punish opportunity, but it can also commit you to a crowded area before you have assessed the next attack.
Try the available hook against an isolated enemy first. Observe whether the target moves toward you or your own position changes, then end the sequence with a short follow-up. Add more attacks only after you can identify the exit. This is a practice recommendation; it does not promise that every enemy follows the same movement rules or that a particular follow-up is guaranteed.
Evaluate defense without trusting old percentages
An older snapshot on this site listed exact mitigation percentages. Those figures are not carried forward as verified retail statistics. Read the current Grafted Armor tooltip and the unlocked upgrades on your save before calculating a build around them. A passive chance should not be treated as a dependable answer to an attack you can already avoid deliberately.
For a practical comparison, keep the same weapon and encounter when switching from Tiel to Proxima. Note whether your failed attempts come from entry positioning, long attack recovery or missed defensive timing. If the passive occasionally saves you, record that separately from a response you controlled. This avoids mistaking a lucky survival for a repeatable strategy.
A Proxima session with one useful result
Choose a single approach problem: an enemy that backs away, an opening you cannot reach, or a follow-up that leaves you exposed. Test the current hook action under that condition with your usual equipment. In the next attempt, use your normal approach instead. Compare where you end up and whether you can disengage, rather than focusing only on the largest number you see.
Leave Adaptive Difficulty and Night Mode unchanged during the comparison. If several settings move at once, you will not know whether Proxima solved the positioning problem or the encounter simply became easier. Use the planner to save the experiment and stop after you have a clear observation. A small, controlled result is easier to carry into a boss fight than a long list of unexplained upgrades.
Biosampler animation problems and patch context
The September 14 official hotfix specifically addresses Proxima getting stuck in the Biosampler animation. That is a version issue to investigate before treating the lock as intended ability recovery. Confirm your platform update, inspect the official note, and distinguish an animation that never releases from a normal action that simply takes longer than you expected.
The Week 1 notes also contain Proxima-related fixes. Old recordings can therefore demonstrate a genuine past problem without describing the present game. If the issue persists on an updated installation, record your platform, installed version and the action that triggered it for a support report. Avoid making the problem worse by committing more upgrade resources solely to work around an apparent bug.
Ability names and upgrade verification
Archived active name: Biosampler. Archived passive name: Grafted Armor. Read the current in-game tooltips before assigning numbers or selecting upgrades. These names are historical context, not a freshly measured retail stat table.
Questions before you commit
Where do I unlock Proxima?
Blackridge Pass → northeast → Shattered Beacon dungeon → body at the rear.
Is a Gloom map reveal the unlock price?
A reveal is an optional navigation hint. Complete the route’s fight, interaction or quest condition; this page does not invent an unverified reveal price.
How do I confirm the pickup?
Finish the prompted sequence and check the Shell selection screen. Reaching a search area or winning one encounter is not sufficient confirmation.
