October 13 hotfix: what changes for this guide

The October 13 official hotfix adds visual effects for Tiel’s Shadow Clones and tweaks and fixes Poison Shadow Clones. The note does not provide new damage, duration or upgrade numbers. An older recording can differ visually without proving a new damage bonus. Keep your current tooltip and a repeatable short encounter as the reference before changing an investment.

Requirement: An early map marker; no Shellkeeper reveal purchase is needed.

Find the grave, not a generic village label

Use Widow’s Overlook as your starting landmark. The route summary above follows PowerPyx’s published collection guide; Gamer Guides independently places the pickup beside the Ritual Grounds area. Our older page only said Mushroom Village and labelled the route as beta information. That broad description did not explain what to interact with, so the Beacon-based route replaces it.

A search marker indicates an area rather than a completed unlock. Look for the body interaction at the grave, finish the prompted sequence, and check the Shell selection screen before leaving. If your objective is only Tiel, complete that pickup before turning the session into a sweep of every nearby cave. Keep the current Beacon name visible on your map so a wrong turn does not become an untraceable detour.

Unlock cost: distinguish a hint from a bond

Finding a body, revealing its location and upgrading its bond are different actions. A Shellkeeper map reveal is a navigation service; it should not be described as the purchase price of the playable Shell. The linked routes let you pursue the pickup without assuming that buying a hint completes any local fight, offering or quest interaction.

We have not verified a current per-Shell Gloom price table. Read the live reveal prompt on your installed version before spending, and compare that optional cost with your next Harbinger or equipment upgrade. We do not fill the missing table with guessed values. Tiel and Proxima already have early markers; Genessa follows a separate Censer chain.

The Week 1 official update changes the long-term resource picture and introduces Mether’s Severance for Shell resets. Old advice that assumes a permanently fixed lifetime Glimpse budget needs that patch context. Use the respec guide for the return process, and read the confirmation prompt before applying it to a bond you want to keep.

Build around a reliable defensive response

The older ability snapshot describes Shadow-based attacks and a dash response. Treat those descriptions as historical kit context, then read the abilities actually available in your installed game. The practical question is whether you can create a safe opening consistently, not whether a launch guide calls Tiel the best Shell. A movement-focused kit is useful only when your decisions make the movement predictable.

Begin with a familiar enemy and deliberately limit your response to one dodge and one short punish. Watch the wind-up before moving; repeated dashes can hide whether you read the attack or escaped by chance. Once the basic response is repeatable, introduce the available Shadow option and observe whether it improves the opening. Keep the weapon and difficulty setting unchanged for this comparison.

A short Tiel practice session

Choose an encounter near a Beacon where returning does not consume most of your play time. First observe one attack without trying to maximize damage. Then attempt the same defensive response on the next opportunity. Only add another strike if you still have a clear exit. This drill is an editorial learning method, not a claim about a measured invulnerability window or a required combo.

If a behind-the-target punish feels safer, compare it with your usual approach against that same enemy. Do not interpret one successful attempt as proof that every boss can be handled identically. Attack tracking, surrounding enemies and arena walls all change the practical value of repositioning. A useful result is a response you can explain and repeat, even if it deals less damage than a showcase video.

Tiel or Proxima for the next upgrade?

Compare Tiel with Proxima after trying both with the same weapon. Tiel’s Shadow context encourages a timing-and-repositioning experiment; Proxima’s hook context raises a different question about how you enter range. Choose the Shell that solves the mistake you actually make. If you consistently arrive too late to punish, investigate approach options. If you attack too long and get caught, shorten the punish before changing your entire build.

Separate the decision to discover a Shell from the decision to invest in its bond. Finding both early bodies gives you a comparison without committing all resources immediately. Write down one reason to keep Tiel and one limitation you want to test on Proxima. That is a more useful upgrade plan than copying an unexplained tier-list position.

When the route or ability seems wrong

Check whether you are following a beta video or a current retail route. Our old Mushroom Village wording was not a precise retail path. Match the Beacon and the grave interaction before assuming a missing pickup. If an ability differs from the archived description below, use the current in-game tooltip as the controlling reference and inspect the official update index for relevant changes.

A combat problem and a collection problem require different checks. A body that will not interact is not evidence that your damage build is poor. Likewise, unlocking Tiel does not automatically make a later boss easy. Keep collection completion in the tracker and combat practice in the session planner so you can resume the right task next time.

Ability names and upgrade verification

Archived active name: Lingering Shadow. Archived passive name: Shadow Dash. Read the current in-game tooltips before assigning numbers or selecting upgrades. These names are historical context, not a freshly measured retail stat table.

Questions before you commit

Where do I unlock Tiel?

Widow’s Overlook → southeast search area → grave → inhabit Tiel.

Is a Gloom map reveal the unlock price?

A reveal is an optional navigation hint. Complete the route’s fight, interaction or quest condition; this page does not invent an unverified reveal price.

How do I confirm the pickup?

Finish the prompted sequence and check the Shell selection screen. Reaching a search area or winning one encounter is not sufficient confirmation.
