How to Respec Shells in Mortal Shell 2: Mether’s Severance

Mether’s Severance resets a Shell through Zhirelle and returns the Glimpses invested in it. Treat this as a Shell rebuild, not a promise that every resource or weapon upgrade will be refunded.

What the official updates confirm

The August 29 update added the item and says Merrick sells it, with stock returning occasionally as you progress. September 14 added its use at the Genessa trainer. September 24 fixes include a gamepad cancellation soft lock and interaction with Stray Genessa after using it.

Before spending the item

Write down which Shell you are resetting and which abilities you actually use. A poor match between a weapon’s recovery and your attack habits may be solved by a shorter combo; resetting the Shell is not automatically the first step.

Check the installed update, visit the relevant trainer and read the in-game confirmation. The official promise is a return of spent Glimpses for that Shell. Do not assume Gloom spent elsewhere, consumables or weapon progress are included.

Rebuild around one problem

Choose a purpose before buying upgrades again: safer exploration, learning a boss, or a different combat rhythm. Reinvest in the abilities that serve that purpose and test them on a familiar encounter before committing the rest.

Keep the comparison fair. Use the same weapon and difficulty setting for the first test. If you change the Shell, weapon and adaptive difficulty together, you cannot tell which decision helped. A short successful practice run is more useful than copying an unexplained “best build” list.

If Merrick has no stock or the trainer will not respond

The notes say stock can return with progression; they do not publish an exact universal timer. Avoid wasting a session repeatedly resting on the assumption that each rest must restock the item.

If the trainer cannot be interacted with, check the later fixes and record the platform, installed version and the action immediately before the issue. Do not delete your save or overwrite a useful backup to test an unverified workaround.

Keep a record for next time

Record your rebuild goal and whether the next encounter improved. You do not need a perfect final build to continue the game. Use the planner to choose one test, then revisit the Shell page when you know what needs changing.
