Requirement: A pursuit and rematch; the first victory is not the finished unlock.
Follow the pursuit instead of stopping after one fight
The route begins near The Silent Steps and continues into Chamber of Becoming. The collection guide describes an initial encounter followed by a pursuit and another fight. Keep those stages distinct. If you leave after the first victory, you may have progressed the route without obtaining the playable Shell. Use the body interaction and the Shell selection screen as your completion checks.
At the final stage, the published route identifies a tombstone mechanic linked to repeated revival. Inspect the encounter objects as well as the enemy. This short summary deliberately points to the full source route instead of inventing coordinates or presenting every room as an independently tested map. Match the dungeon name and the stage you have reached before interpreting a repeated fight as a bug.
Unlock cost: distinguish a hint from a bond
Finding a body, revealing its location and upgrading its bond are different actions. A Shellkeeper map reveal is a navigation service; it should not be described as the purchase price of the playable Shell. The linked routes let you pursue the pickup without assuming that buying a hint completes any local fight, offering or quest interaction.
We have not verified a current per-Shell Gloom price table. Read the live reveal prompt on your installed version before spending, and compare that optional cost with your next Harbinger or equipment upgrade. We do not fill the missing table with guessed values. Tiel and Proxima already have early markers; Genessa follows a separate Censer chain.
The Week 1 official update changes the long-term resource picture and introduces Mether’s Severance for Shell resets. Old advice that assumes a permanently fixed lifetime Glimpse budget needs that patch context. Use the respec guide for the return process, and read the confirmation prompt before applying it to a bond you want to keep.
Prepare for a route with several stages
Give yourself enough time for navigation and the rematch rather than assuming Sariel is a single outdoor pickup. If you stop after the first encounter, save the dungeon pursuit as your next planner task. That makes the next session start with an actionable objective. Collection progress can be meaningful even when you have not yet finished the final interaction.
Use a build you understand for the route and keep experiments separate. An unfamiliar ability can make it harder to notice the environmental mechanic that actually ends the encounter. If revival continues, revisit the objects and route description before adding damage upgrades. More damage does not explain whether a required encounter condition has been completed.
Evaluate Curse and Pain from current tooltips
The archived kit connects Sariel with thorns, Curse and Pain. Treat it as vocabulary for reading the current upgrade screen, not as a measured build table. Identify the exact action you can use now and the condition it asks you to manage. Then test a short sequence against an isolated target before combining several effects against a group.
When comparing upgrades, write down which part of the exchange they should improve: hitting the target, surviving recovery or managing the condition afterward. Avoid spending resources solely because a guide lists a large theoretical damage result. If you cannot deliberately create the required state, the theoretical result is not yet a practical option for your run.
What the September update changes about old advice
The September 5 official notes revise several Sariel interactions, including Thornfall targeting and its behavior under low ceilings. Advice that treats indoor failure as an inherent permanent limitation may therefore be outdated. Compare your installed behavior with the current patch before avoiding an ability throughout an entire dungeon.
The same update changes Agonize and Affliction behavior. If an older sequence depends on a particular Pain condition or on which enemies receive an effect, inspect the current tooltip and patch text before reproducing it. This guide does not supply a universal multiplier or a guaranteed status rotation. Its practical recommendation is to test one interaction at a time and keep the rest of the encounter unchanged.
A useful comparison with Smert
Sariel’s archived condition-focused kit and Smert’s stance-focused kit ask you to manage different decisions. Compare them in a familiar encounter where you can identify the next safe action. Choose the mechanic you can explain and repeat. If both attempts fail because you overextend a punish, practice a shorter exchange before committing to an entirely new upgrade path.
Keep your installed version, equipment and difficulty settings in the comparison note. A guide recorded before the September changes is useful historical evidence but cannot establish how your present setup behaves. After collecting Sariel, use the tracker for completion and the planner for this later build experiment. The collection goal and the combat goal should remain independently understandable.
Ability names and upgrade verification
Archived active name: Exodus of Thorns. Archived passive name: Purge. Read the current in-game tooltips before assigning numbers or selecting upgrades. These names are historical context, not a freshly measured retail stat table.
Questions before you commit
Where do I unlock Sariel?
The Silent Steps → Sariel encounter → Chamber of Becoming → final rematch.
Is a Gloom map reveal the unlock price?
A reveal is an optional navigation hint. Complete the route’s fight, interaction or quest condition; this page does not invent an unverified reveal price.
How do I confirm the pickup?
Finish the prompted sequence and check the Shell selection screen. Reaching a search area or winning one encounter is not sufficient confirmation.
