Routes: published collection guides, checked October 2, 2026. Ability names below: archived beta/launch-era descriptions, not independently measured current statistics. Build drills: editorial recommendations. Patch scope: official notes through September 24; the feed checked October 2 contains no newer official announcement. Platform build identifiers are not interchangeable.

Requirement: The Vellen encounter and the room beyond it are separate checks.

Continue beyond the boss reward

The route references place Lazlo beyond Vellen in the Royal Crypts area reached from High Lords Courtyard. Defeating the encounter and claiming the Shell are separate tasks. After the fight, inspect the onward room or path instead of returning immediately to the hub. Finish the body interaction and verify Lazlo in your selection menu before treating the route as complete.

If time is limited, make the boss your current planner objective and leave the collection confirmation as a follow-up. This is more accurate than marking the Shell collected merely because the boss has died. Keep the landmark and the completed stage in your notes so the next session begins from a clear route decision rather than an uncertain memory of the last reward screen.

Unlock cost: distinguish a hint from a bond

Finding a body, revealing its location and upgrading its bond are different actions. A Shellkeeper map reveal is a navigation service; it should not be described as the purchase price of the playable Shell. The linked routes let you pursue the pickup without assuming that buying a hint completes any local fight, offering or quest interaction.

We have not verified a current per-Shell Gloom price table. Read the live reveal prompt on your installed version before spending, and compare that optional cost with your next Harbinger or equipment upgrade. We do not fill the missing table with guessed values. Tiel and Proxima already have early markers; Genessa follows a separate Censer chain.

The Week 1 official update changes the long-term resource picture and introduces Mether’s Severance for Shell resets. Old advice that assumes a permanently fixed lifetime Glimpse budget needs that patch context. Use the respec guide for the return process, and read the confirmation prompt before applying it to a bond you want to keep.

Plan the encounter with equipment you know

Because the body sits beyond a boss, a failed attempt is not evidence that your navigation was wrong. Prepare the fight with a familiar weapon and defensive routine. First establish where the encounter gives you an opening and how you can exit it. Test a new weapon or difficulty setting in a separate attempt so a successful result has an explanation you can carry forward.

The goal is a repeatable completion route, not the fastest possible damage demonstration. A shorter punish that preserves control can be more useful than a full sequence you cannot finish safely. If you repeatedly fail on the same transition, save that transition as the next practice objective. Buying another Shell location hint will not resolve an attack pattern you have not yet learned.

Armor state is a decision you must track

The archived Lazlo kit describes Retribution, heat and an armor-related tradeoff. Read the current tooltip before using old percentages or assuming a specific number of activations produces the same state on every version. The useful practical question is whether you know what state you are in when you choose to continue attacking.

Try one activation in a familiar encounter and observe the resulting state and recovery. Then compare with a repeated use only if you can identify the consequences. Do not evaluate the mechanic solely by the largest shockwave: include whether the action leaves you able to defend. A powerful release can still be a poor choice if you deliberately trigger it at a moment when the enemy is about to punish your recovery.

Compare Lazlo and Eredrim without a tank label

Eredrim’s archived mechanics emphasize close-range pressure and finishing opportunities; Lazlo’s emphasize armor state and repeated ability use. If you are looking for a defensive change, test how each helps with the specific attack that catches you. A shared description such as sturdy does not tell you whether you can make the ability’s condition work in the encounter.

Keep your weapon, Night Mode and Adaptive Difficulty unchanged while comparing. Record whether you failed before the ability, during its recovery or after committing to an additional attack. Those observations tell you what to practice and which upgrade you might actually need. They also prevent a lucky mitigation or an easier encounter from being mistaken for proof that one Shell is always superior.

Avoid outdated exploit and exit guidance

The September 14 official hotfix addresses Lazlo’s Temperament infinite glitch and an issue trapping players after claiming him. The Week 1 update also lists a potential crash or softlock during his Rekindle. These are dated fixes, so an older video can demonstrate a problem that the current update intends to remove. Check your platform version before following a workaround built around that old state.

Do not plan progression around the Temperament exploit. Evaluate the normal current ability behavior instead. If you are unable to leave after the unlock on an updated installation, note the stage, platform and version for support rather than assuming the collection intentionally blocks the route. The tracker can record that Lazlo was acquired; the issue record should separately describe the exit problem.

Ability names and upgrade verification

Archived active name: Retribution. Archived passive name: Fortified Plate. Read the current in-game tooltips before assigning numbers or selecting upgrades. These names are historical context, not a freshly measured retail stat table.

Questions before you commit

Where do I unlock Lazlo?

High Lords Courtyard → Royal Crypts → Vellen → body beyond the encounter.

Is a Gloom map reveal the unlock price?

A reveal is an optional navigation hint. Complete the route’s fight, interaction or quest condition; this page does not invent an unverified reveal price.

How do I confirm the pickup?

Finish the prompted sequence and check the Shell selection screen. Reaching a search area or winning one encounter is not sufficient confirmation.
