October 13 hotfix: what changes for this guide
The October 13 official hotfix fixes Lost Clotstone causing Genessa Clones with Obsidian Hammer to get stuck and remain indefinitely. It also fixes Astral Clones not attacking near an edge, Tarstones not granting EXP for kills by player summons, and summon collisions that could launch large enemies or bosses. Do not assume every named summon change describes the same ability. Test target selection and one summon sequence on your installed update; a clone that remains forever is not a supported current build loop. These changes do not replace the Censer acquisition route or the September trainer/reset fixes.
Requirement: A Censer quest chain, not an ordinary Shellkeeper reveal purchase.
Why the old generic reveal instruction was wrong
Genessa has a separate item-and-dialogue chain. Our previous entity page placed her under the same generic reveal wording as several other Shells; that wording did not explain the Censer requirement. The route sources connect Revenant Graves, the Sester Secundus encounter and a return to Genessa in Marrow Keep. Use those as the collection stages rather than searching for an ordinary purchased location marker.
Check the objective after each stage: did you complete the encounter, obtain the Sester’s Censer and finish the return conversation? This is especially helpful if you stop playing between the dungeon and the hub. Finding the route entrance does not mean the hand-in has happened. Confirm the final Shell in your selection screen before marking the collection tracker complete.
Unlock cost: distinguish a hint from a bond
Finding a body, revealing its location and upgrading its bond are different actions. A Shellkeeper map reveal is a navigation service; it should not be described as the purchase price of the playable Shell. The linked routes let you pursue the pickup without assuming that buying a hint completes any local fight, offering or quest interaction.
We have not verified a current per-Shell Gloom price table. Read the live reveal prompt on your installed version before spending, and compare that optional cost with your next Harbinger or equipment upgrade. We do not fill the missing table with guessed values. Tiel and Proxima already have early markers; Genessa follows a separate Censer chain.
The Week 1 official update changes the long-term resource picture and introduces Mether’s Severance for Shell resets. Old advice that assumes a permanently fixed lifetime Glimpse budget needs that patch context. Use the respec guide for the return process, and read the confirmation prompt before applying it to a bond you want to keep.
Prepare for the quest encounter and return trip
Treat the dungeon fight as its own session objective. Use equipment you already understand instead of testing a new build and learning a new encounter simultaneously. On an early attempt, identify the recovery windows and the route’s progress state. Once the item is obtained, remember that there is still a hub interaction to finish; collecting the quest reward is not the last step in the published unlock chain.
If Genessa’s dialogue does not present the expected option, confirm the item and your current quest stage before assuming you need to pay Gloom. A missing interaction can be a state or version problem, whereas a marker purchase is a navigation aid. Keep the item name available when checking a guide so similar Sester encounters or rewards do not become mixed together.
Evaluate Faithful Doubles with a controlled target
The archived kit associates Genessa with Faithful Doubles. The current game’s tooltip and unlocked upgrades control what you can actually perform. Test the available summon against one isolated enemy first and observe its target choice and the follow-up you can safely make. Only then try a group. This helps distinguish a positioning problem from a summon interaction that is not behaving as expected.
Do not build a resource plan around a video showing an endless loop. The September 5 official notes change Augmentation to address infinite Resolve gain and repeated Doubles. A launch-era loop can therefore be a real historical interaction without being a dependable present build. Choose upgrades for the normal action you can reproduce on your installed version.
Understand the alternate state before relying on it
The older passive snapshot describes becoming Stray when health is depleted. That is historical kit context, not a current numerical survival guarantee. Read the current passive and inspect how control, movement and your available actions change in the alternate state. Learn the transition in a familiar encounter so it does not become a surprise during a lengthy quest fight.
When comparing Genessa with another Shell, record the failure that led to the transition and what you could do afterward. Surviving a transition once is different from having a reliable recovery plan. If you cannot explain the next safe action, improve that response before investing in a complicated summon sequence. Keep the test separate from your collection checklist so a failed combat experiment does not erase a completed quest objective.
Trainer, respec and version-specific problems
The September 14 official hotfix makes Mether’s Severance usable at the Genessa trainer. The September 24 notes address Stray Genessa interaction after using it. Those changes matter when an older guide tells you that a trainer route is unavailable or when an interaction becomes stuck after a reset. Match your platform build and read the current respec prompt before deciding what to do.
For a build comparison, try Genessa and Proxima with the same weapon: one experiment concerns an external attack opportunity, the other concerns entering range. Observe which action solves your actual mistake. This is not a tier ranking. A clear, repeatable plan for one encounter is a better reason to switch than an outdated claim about unlimited resources or a hypothetical percentage the current tooltip does not confirm.
Ability names and upgrade verification
Archived active name: Faithful Doubles. Archived passive name: Duality. Read the current in-game tooltips before assigning numbers or selecting upgrades. These names are historical context, not a freshly measured retail stat table.
Questions before you commit
Where do I unlock Genessa?
Revenant Graves → Sester Secundus → Sester’s Censer → Genessa in Marrow Keep.
Is a Gloom map reveal the unlock price?
A reveal is an optional navigation hint. Complete the route’s fight, interaction or quest condition; this page does not invent an unverified reveal price.
How do I confirm the pickup?
Finish the prompted sequence and check the Shell selection screen. Reaching a search area or winning one encounter is not sufficient confirmation.
