Mortal Shell 2 Ranged Weapons: Sidearm Practice Guide

Sidearms are part of Mortal Shell II’s combat toolkit. Choose one for a specific job—creating a safer opening, handling distance or supporting your melee rhythm—rather than treating every ranged weapon as the same build.

Targeting and projectile checks after October 13

The October 13 official hotfix changes Tiltshot projectiles to spin and move forward, fixes Barrage plus Solnir Shard Tarstone damaging allies, and fixes Black Needle throw and infused stone aiming or interaction failures. It also fixes Cursed Child summons being targeted by Sidearm and Cursed Child/Grisha summons being hit or targeted by Biosampler.

An old projectile demonstration or friendly-target workaround may no longer describe your installed game. Compare one shot and its return to melee before investing in a new routine. The patch lists behavior and bug fixes, not a universal damage-per-second ranking or verified resource-price table.

What is confirmed and what needs testing

The official overview confirms powerful sidearms and upgrade options alongside combat without a stamina restriction. It does not publish a universal best-sidearm ranking. Weapon pages on this wiki include older client data, so check your current item description before investing around a numerical claim.

Give the sidearm one job

Decide whether the immediate problem is approaching an enemy, finding a punish window or dealing with pressure from more than one direction. Then test whether your chosen sidearm helps that problem. A long-range opening that works in an open field may not be useful in a narrow room.

Begin from a safe, repeatable position. Observe the firing animation, time before you can defend again, projectile behaviour and any resource cost shown by the game. These observations matter more for your first decision than damage from an unrelated video.

Compare weapons without misleading yourself

Keep the target, range, upgrades, Shell and difficulty setting as similar as practical. Try one shot, a short sequence and a transition back to melee. Note which sequence lets you recover safely, not only which number is largest.

If an attack fails at close range or around geometry, test the situation separately. Do not generalise one blocked shot into a claim that the weapon is broken. If the same failure is repeatable, note the location and installed version.

Connect ranged attacks to defence

Plan what happens after firing. Use an opening that leaves enough time for your next defensive response. If you repeatedly trade damage, shorten the sequence or increase distance instead of adding another shot.

Once the basic sequence is reliable, vary only one element: a different target, tighter space or another weapon option. This approach produces a useful personal comparison without pretending this page has measured damage-per-second for the entire roster.

Where to go next

Use the weapons index to find the available entries and their stated source limitations. Save a single practice goal in the planner. A weapon that makes your route more consistent can be a better choice for the next session than one with a higher claimed ceiling.
