Gloom Leveling Guide

Gloom is Mortal Shell II's core currency — and after Balance Patch 1, every spend is a real tradeoff.

What Gloom buys

  • Harbinger levels (permanent cross-Shell power)
  • Shell location map reveals from Zhirelle (changed from Glimpses in Patch 1)
  • Weapon actions and upgrades

The Balance Patch 1 economy change

Map reveals used to cost Glimpses. Patch 1 moved them to Gloom and refunded previously spent Glimpses. This makes each reveal compete directly with your next Harbinger level — the intended design tension.

Spending priority for new players

  • Harbinger levels first — they benefit every Shell
  • One Shell reveal at a time, only when your build has a clear gap
  • Weapon actions after your main weapon's moveset feels limited
If you paid Glimpses for reveals before Patch 1 and didn't receive the refund via dialogue, check the pickup in the Shellkeeper's alcove in Blackmarrow.
